Installing your new filter is easy in most cases. It will go right back where the old one was. The most common mistake made is putting the filter in upside down. Our air filters are marked on the sides with arrows. These arrows need to be pointing in the direction of the air flow, or toward the indoor unit. Our pleated filters have an expanded metal backing on one side to help support the filter media while the air is moving through it.

There are a few reasons you should change your air filter regularly. First, to protect your HVAC equipment. Dirty filters can cause serious damage to your equipment that can be very costly and it’s totally avoidable. Second, to protect the indoor air quality (IAQ) of your home. Pleated air filters can remove many allergens from the air that passes through them sparing you and your family from seasonal allergy symptoms in your home. Lastly, to help reduce your utility costs. Dirty air filters cause your equipment to work harder and use more energy.

AC Filters and Furnace Filters are the same thing. Think of it like a regional term. In colder areas they are more often referred to as Furnace Filter and in warmer areas, AC Filters.

Actual size is exactly what is sounds like, the actual size of the air filter. This is usually a fractional size slightly smaller than what is printed on the filter itself. Nominal size is the actual size of the filter rounded up to the nearest inch to standardize how they are labeled and searched for (just like lumber dimensions). So a filter with a nominal size of 16x25x1 will actually be a bit smaller, around 15-1/2 x 24-1/2 x 7/8 in the case of a Glasfloss brand air filter. One exception is with replacement filters for Whole House Air Cleaners. These can sometimes have an actual size that is larger than the nominal size, so it is important to measure these filters when purchasing a replacement to insure you are ordering the correct filter size.
